I was born in Canada’s newest province, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. I grew up outside Saint John, New Brunswick, where the mall smells like BO and urinal cakes and the highway smells like sulfur. But I loved driving through the city to laughably argue with my big Irish family around my Nan’s old kitchen table. Also, great used record store.

Pretty though.
I got through high school drumming in a couple of bands, playing football and lacrosse, and bumming around. Now I’ve moved an hour up the road to Fredericton, and I’m graduating from St. Thomas University with a 4.1 GPA and a double major in journalism and human rights .

That's me.
My concentration is in print and television journalism. I usually research, write, shoot and edit all of my own stuff, but am also used to working on a team. I’ve worked as a freelance journalist and photographer for various NB papers, and as contributor to Rogers television First Local. Generally I prefer to write magazine and issues pieces, but I also love arts and film reporting, and have lots of experience with hard news and editorials. I also have training in radio; I’ve had one story broadcast nationally on CBC and have 6 months experience working as a producer and DJ at CFMH radio in Saint John.
When I started reading Hemingway and Hunter S. Thompson I knew I wanted to get into journalism. When I read Dispatches by Michael Herr I knew I had made the right choice. Four years later I was ready to get the hell out of school.
I’ll always be a journalist and plan to keep working as one. But I’m a complete movie nut, and am working toward becoming a filmmaker. I’ve recently finished my first short documentary, Cherry Brook: The Zoo on Rollercoaster Road, as well as several full length movie treatments and scripts for two short films. I’m currently working on a full length script, The Peloponnesian War or: Those Crazy Cooks the Greeks. I have plans to produce and direct at least one of my short scripts with the NB Film Co-Op over the next year.
The filmmakers that made me want to create movies were Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese. I won’t go in to why they’re awesome. I also love the Dogme 95 film movement, but probably don’t have enough integrity to join it.
In my spare time I’m a member of two bands; Colt 45 and the Gutter Rats (a classic rock cover band); and Celtic Fist, an East Coast style pub rock band. I sing vocals and play blues harp in both, and I’m also trying to teach myself to play piano.
That’s me, minus going into my gaming, comedy geekdom and amateur photography.
